The John Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering has launched an online dashboard<\/a> to track the spread of the deadly coronavirus. For the first time in a global outbreak, the use of artificial intelligence is becoming a useful tool to monitor and respond to the crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to John Browstein, a computational epidemiologist at Boston Children’s Hospital who operates a public health surveillance site called healthmap.org<\/a>, “the field of AI has evolved dramatically.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Machine learning is used to scrape all the information, classify it, tag it, and filter it. From there, the information gets pushed to colleagues at WHO (World Health Organization) that are looking at the information all day and making assessments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
