It was St. Patrick\u2019s Day and my family was gathering at my brother\u2019s house for dinner.\u00a0 <\/span>He hosts a gathering every year for the holiday- he is a private chef and works very hard to put out a celebratory spread.\u00a0 <\/span>We aren\u2019t Irish but we love food.\u00a0 <\/span>My brother\u2019s corned beef is amazing and it\u2019s the best I\u2019ve had.\u00a0 <\/span>He also makes a Shepherd\u2019s Pie, Irish Soda Bread, Colcannon, and of course, cabbage.\u00a0 <\/span>We love to eat and hang out together as a family and every year my brother also dances an Irish Jig, which we all record on our phones and then send to each other and laugh.<\/span><\/p>\n

While we were driving I would hear a strange whirring sound that would come and go.\u00a0 <\/span>Wwwwwhhhhhhhiiiiiirrrr-Wwwwwhhhhhhhiiiiiirrrr and then nothing.\u00a0 <\/span>I would be talking to my wife or my daughter and I would hear it. Wwwwwhhhhhhhiiiiiirrrr- Wwwwwhhhhhhhiiiiiirrrr and then nothing.\u00a0 <\/span>By the time I\u2019d get around to wondering \u2018what\u2019s that noise?\u2019 it would disappear.\u00a0 <\/span>I rolled the driver\u2019s side window down to listen for it.\u00a0 <\/span>Was there something going on with the tires?\u00a0 <\/span>I finally said something.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat is that noise?\u00a0 <\/span>Does anybody else hear it?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

My daughter laughed and said, \u201cDad, that\u2019s my fidget spinner.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s a fidget spinner?\u201d\u00a0 <\/span>I asked, relieved that the sound didn\u2019t meant there was anything wrong with the car.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s this little toy I spin when I\u2019m bored.\u00a0 <\/span>They used to be very popular but no one uses them anymore.\u00a0 <\/span>Well, I do sometimes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

And since she had just explained it to me, it took no giant logic leap to realize that she was super-jazzed to be listening to me talk.\u00a0 <\/span>I was a big old drag, and she had to fidget to endure the boredom.<\/span><\/p>\n

When she showed me the toy I made the visual connection.\u00a0 <\/span>I\u2019d seen these fidget spinners at checkout counters and registers for the last few months, but had never cared to wonder what they were.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What a concept.\u00a0 <\/span>Something you can do when you are bored and can\u2019t be doing the things you want.\u00a0 <\/span>People don\u2019t bring fidget-spinners to the Bowling Alley or to miniature golf or the water park.\u00a0 <\/span>They take them to school, or to meetings, or on boring drives where Dad won\u2019t shut up.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I started to think about naturally occurring fidget spinners and there are plenty.\u00a0 <\/span>Things people do when they are bored, or when they are stuck somewhere they don\u2019t want to be.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We recently began delivering full IT services for a wonderful local business here in the valley.\u00a0 <\/span>As we were going through the onboard process we discovered multiple things have not been getting done.\u00a0 <\/span>There were no current backups, their hardware was out of warranty and their support contracts with their software vendor had expired.\u00a0 <\/span>None of the machines had gotten security patches in years.\u00a0 <\/span>When we brought our findings to the facility manager, she was shocked.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBut they were always doing so much.\u00a0 <\/span>I was getting reports every month of all the things they\u2019ve done.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Yes, they were getting some monthly reports from their MSP, but the reports were in technology-ese and also bogus.\u00a0 <\/span>That\u2019s when it hit me.<\/span><\/p>\n

They were getting fidget spun!\u00a0 <\/span>They knew they weren\u2019t getting proper service, and when they would enquire the MSP would bury them in a barrage of tech-heavy reports.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSee everything we are doing for you?\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s a LOT.\u00a0 <\/span>It requires multiple pages.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Do you hear a whirring noise when you reach out to your MSP?\u00a0 <\/span>Do they bury you in paperwork when you wonder why something happened or why something didn\u2019t get done?\u00a0 <\/span>Can you see how bored they are with you?\u00a0 <\/span>The fidget spinnerER, (the one who spins) is a brutal critic.\u00a0 <\/span>They telegraph their displeasure with a soft Wwwwwhhhhhhhiiiiiirrrr- Wwwwwhhhhhhhiiiiiirrrr.<\/span><\/p>\n
